Devlog #1 — Don't Step Out: The Very First Playable Prototype





Hi everyone,
Today, I'm sharing a very first and very early prototype version of Don't Step Out.
Here's a FNABQ to kick us off (Frankly Never Asked Before Questions):
What is Don't Step Out?
A Metroidvania platformer I've been working on for two weeks now.
Are the controls and the camera complete?
No, there is more coming:
- Wall-Jumping
- Automatic Camera Zoom
- Scripted Cameras
When will it be finished?
As motivated as I am for this project, I'm working solo when I have time.
No official deadline. It's done when it's done. Like Blizzard. :)
Do you need help?
Not for the development. I've embarked on doing all the design, programming and art on my own.
I can't do music though, which should be an important part of the project.
I don't know yet if I'm going to use available tracks or work with a sound designer (anyone?)
What will the game's story be about?
For now, the game is about a rocky relationship with an overbearing parental figure. In which you're not allowed to step out of line, to step out of the suffocating protection of home. Unlocking the main character's abilities will symbolize personal growth and autonomy, and the story will follow the emotional evolution of the parent confronted to their offspring growing up.
